With travel once again slowly becoming a viable option, it’s understandable people are starting to crave a change of scenery.

But anyone planning a vacation amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic will likely have safety top of mind. However, it’s also safe to assume potential vacationers are also in the mood for a getaway that provides some pampering. One such option—one that effortlessly combines luxury with heightened safety standards—is Andaz Mayakoba, located along the Caribbean Sea within the exclusive Mayakoba Resort complex.

A warm welcome at Andaz Mayakoba

A genuinely warm welcome awaits at the AAA Four-Diamond awarded Andaz Mayakoba. It’s a property renowned for not only a top-tier experience, but also the way in which they embrace local culture, making it an integral part of each guests’ stay.

This is apparent from the moment you walk into the lobby where you’re greeted by the Sanctuary, a round body of water representing a cenote, an important symbol in Mayan culture. You’ll also start to notice that many of the buildings feature street art by renowned Playa del Carmen artist, Senkoe. As well as thoughtful Mayan touches throughout the resort and in each guestroom.

So much to discover at the resort and beyond

Should you have more on your vacation agenda than basking on the beautiful beach, you won’t be disappointed.

On-site amenities include two pools, 24-hour fitness centre, nature trails, complimentary bicycles and an activities program ranging from Mexican cooking classes to workshops teaching Mayan-inspired crafts.

It’s also worth signing up for a visit to El Pueblito, a traditional Mexican plaza in the heart of Mayakoba featuring boutique shopping, live entertainment, colourful architecture and a seasonal farmers’ market. Or book a trip to Cenote El Burrodromo, a natural cave filled with crystal clear water.

214 open-layout guestrooms and suites (all with spacious balcony or terrace) offer stunning views. Splurge on one of 41 luxury suites to also enjoy a private plunge pool, perfect for cooling off without leaving your room.

Unique touches abound; like healthy snacks in the minibar, large bathrooms that span the entire length of the room allowing natural light to flow in, walk-in rain showers and a signature Mayan décor item in each room.

Mayan-inspired spa treatments at Andaz Mayakoba

When you want to be pampered, Naum Wellness & Spa offers six open and airy treatment rooms where many services incorporate Indigenous Mayan methods.

Naum is the Mayan God of consciousness and mind, so you can expect unique treatments (referred to as “Rituals”) that can be customized based on your needs and which pay homage to oneself and the Mayan Gods. Each Ritual begins with a Mayan Time of Reflection, followed by the treatment itself, and concludes with a Mayan Celebration to help guests balance and reconnect with themselves and the universe.

Guests can also choose to take part in an interactive aromatherapy bar where they can design their own custom products and scents.

Fantastic food

Food is an important part of a positive vacation experience–something not taken lightly at Andaz Mayakoba.

Stop by Tinta del Pulpo (serving breakfast, lunch and dinner) for both Mexican and international fare, including fresh ceviches, aguachiles, homemade churros and locally crafted Mexican beer. Or dine at Sotavento, serving up fresh Mediterranean flavours with the added bonus of being able to dine with your feet in the sand. And if you’re craving something healthy, stop by VB, the resort’s vegan concept, for a variety of nutritious options. Think fresh juices, smoothies and dishes made with sustainable, locally soured ingredients.

Safety first

You can rest easy knowing that Andaz Mayakoba resort has been certified by local authorities in terms of guest and staff safety.

Expect increased frequency of cleaning with hospital-grade disinfectants on all high-touch surfaces, guestrooms and shared spaces. There are enhanced food safety and hygiene protocols for restaurants and room service, as well as hand sanitizer stations throughout the hotel’s public and employee areas and entrances.

In addition, physical distancing needs to be practiced, and guestrooms are provided with hand sanitizer gel and sanitizing wipes (masks available upon request).

For those in search of some post-lockdown luxury, they will be in very good hands at Andaz Mayakoba.
